About Odisha Hydrogen Valley Foundation
A Section 8 Company of IIT Bhubaneswar
The Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster (HVIC) is a first-of-its-kind concept in India, developed and monitored by the Department of Science and Technology, and funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy under National Green Hydrogen Mission. HVICs are established to demonstrate the complete Green Hydrogen value chain-encompassing production, storage, transportation, and applications. Odisha Hydrogen Valley Foundation (OHVF), set up by Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar, is the unique HVIC under this Scheme in Eastern India and is focused on piloting the complete green hydrogen value chain at ~100 ton/annum scale. One among ~100 hydrogen valleys across globe, the facility, infrastructure, and technical expertise of Odisha Hydrogen Valley shall act as demonstration platform for potential gH2 ecosystem adopters, benchmarking for newer technologies, as well as techno-commercial feasibility analysis. Importantly, our specific application focus area is mining and metallurgy including iron production. As the country is taking a giant leap and is poised towards being a developed nation by 2047, there will be accelerated requirement of iron to develop necessary infrastructure to drive fast paced development. Considering Iron production is a hard to abate sector for decarbonization, linking various methodologies of green hydrogen production in conjunction with CO2 free ‘iron production innovation’ will have a positive impact on net CO2 emission reduction.
VISION
Odisha has one of the highest surface water in the country with no litigation in water usage. Odisha is also the hub for iron ore and DRI production, a hard to abate sector with significant contribution in CO2 emissions. Odisha also have three large ports including Paradip, Dhamra, Gopalpur and an upcoming port at Astaranga, for future hydrogen export and making country energy surplus in global trade. We envision to strategically align scientific innovation with practical applications for sustainable new energy solution while driving socio-economic and environmental benefits utilizing natural resources and innovative approaches.

MISSION
Odisha Hydrogen Valley, one of the first in the country, acts as a living laboratory under National Green Hydrogen Mission and is poised to develop firsthand understanding on techno-commercials feasibility and viability assessments, as well as CO2 emission reduction potential and environmental amelioration impact of green hydrogen economy in Indian context. To set benchmark by piloting green-hydrogen ecosystem at scale encompassing production, storage, transportation ant utilization in hard to abate sectors. Development of new technologies and TRL improvement of existing know-hows in green hydrogen space with added emphasis on mining and metallurgy sector.
